# Background Story

<figure><img src="/files/aLtE9VDABUSTVG8jTgDe" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Welcome to Paradise!</p></figcaption></figure>

The story begins with our main character receiving a surprising letter from POWC congratulating them on winning a **free paradise island**! Although the main character can't recall entering any lotteries, they decide to seize this sudden stroke of luck and pack their bags to set sail for the island. Upon arrival, they discover that it's a small uninhabited island located near a village called Port Ohana, which has been greatly affected by a recent pandemic that halted all tourism.

The village has a warm welcoming committee that is eager to receive new members to help rebuild their community. Interestingly, the main character also learns that there are many others who have won free islands as well, which seems strange. Despite the size of the island they won, the main character finds it to be a true paradise, with stunning real estate properties for sale in the surrounding area. Determined to purchase one of these properties, the main character sets out to assist POWC while also earning local currency to achieve their goal, while covering many other mysteries surrounding Port Ohana.&#x20;

# World of Paradise Tycoon

In Paradise Tycoon, players are transported into a **diverse tropical environment**. The game's environment responds to the player's interactions, whether with in-game entities or objects, creating emergent gameplay and giving players the opportunity to *create their own fun* alongside the designed gameplay objectives.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/mAXbtsV8xixzUzGVY0nJ" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Each player in Paradise Tycoon will have their own paradise island. Players can utilize their land for **producing resources, building, personalizing their environment or to create their own events and inviting friends** from all over the world to collaborate, trade, compete or just to hang around.&#x20;

At first, it serves as the training ground for learning the game's mechanics, but once players progress they can acquire a higher ranking NFT island and become a part of the metaverse, forming a neighborhood and unlocking the full game content.

> *Early participants of the Alpha and Beta version might have already acquired Genesis Islands from the pre-sale before the World Creation Event, i.e., the global game launch. New players can also choose to purchase higher ranked (but not genesis) islands in-game with Moani, the in-game currency and token.*

Higher-ranking lands provide additional benefits, such as more space for residential and production buildings, better resource harvesting options and more visually striking features, while also unlocking a special tier in Paradise Pass feature and much more!

<figure><img src="/files/RFInLDBhp1WofuMHv8UW" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Regardless of rank, each island features a harbor that serves as a gateway to the larger metaverse, enabling players to embark on adventures to other player islands, the bustling Port Ohana, or explore the outworld's numerous locations.&#x20;

#### Port Ohana&#x20;

The center in the world of Paradise Tycoon, Port Ohana, brings players together for shopping, quests, NFT minting and social interaction to enrich their gaming experience.

<figure><img src="/files/QKlaUUXDyFSv2wF8IH7z" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Port Ohana serves as a home to a number of non-player characters (NPCs) in Paradise Tycoon. This is where players can **engage with vendors** to purchase crafting tools and items, or other goods like consumables that can boost production, as well as vanity items and customization tools for enhancing buildings and personalizing the player's environment. Additionally, players can find various service providers, **craft NFTs** while also making their first **trades** at the Auction House.

The Auction House is the cornerstone of **player-to-player trading in the game**, providing a thriving marketplace where players can buy, sell, and trade items with one another. During the Beta phase, players traded over 5,000,000 items at the Auction House!&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/AzaxHTKNPCiURbd31Rv8" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Additionally, Sidequest NPCs can be found throughout the village, offering exciting new tasks and objectives for players to embark on. In the near future, player can also find the **Barbershop, MOANI trading terminal,** and other exciting locations to visit!

<figure><img src="/files/wWqW9ymre6vsDltHH0R3" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Exotic Adventures Beyond Paradise Island

For those who crave more than the tranquility of their island home, Paradise Tycoon will soon offer exciting adventures in numerous locations in the rich and diverse Outworld that can be undertaken alone or with friends. In the Outworld locations in Paradise Tycoon, such as Makubo Jungle, players can take on **new challenges**, **complete exiciting side quests, discover rare resources** and **valuable items** or even **ancient blueprints** that aid in crafting and building.&#x20;

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk7UiJJETpU>" %}

One of the exciting places players have the opportunity to explore is the mysterious Ancient Ruins. Early access to this special location was granted by owning a **Genesis Key**, one of the items minted in the Genesis NFT mint. The area is now open for any player who has completed the necessary part of the stonyline, however, the key still grants access to a special event. These intriguing locations promise unparalleled adventure and discovery, enriching the overall Paradise Tycoon experience.

<figure><img src="/files/ViZAyQUOy5jsthzgmG0G" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# GAMEPLAY

The game loop of Paradise Tycoon is based on **collecting resources, crafting, trading, building, and questing**. This loop is designed to maintain player engagement and provide a consistent sense of progression, combined with an added layer of metagame features such as user generated events and competitions.

Whether you want to play casually or delve deep into production optimization, Paradise Tycoon offers flexibility to suit your gaming style. For those aiming to progress as fast as possible or reach the top ranks in competitive events, optimizing production can provide the needed edge. The more advanced your buildings, the more resources they will need for construction. **Optimizing your resource production is key to accelerating progress**, **unlocking new in-game content, and expanding your tropical empire**. From constructing buildings, refineries to farming crops, or crafting NFT tools with specific abilities, every action matters and influences your path to prosperity.

<figure><img src="/files/xJEGRkn0xoDYoQzUGvSA" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Even for casual players, understanding and applying basic production strategies can greatly enhance your gaming experience and progress.

# Resources & Game Currency

In Paradise Tycoon, **resources and crops play a crucial role** in various aspects of the game, such as crafting, building, and participating in events. Understanding their types, locations, and rarity enhances your gameplay.&#x20;

By playing Paradise Tycoon, players will also encounter the in-game currency called Moani token, which is an integral part of your journey within this virtual world. Moani can be obtained through various means. Primarily, you can acquire it by **engaging in various activities** within the game, such as completing one-off quests and tasks, participating in events, or through sales of your crafted items and resources. Moani can also be acquired directly on the game's platform, or from supported exchanges after TGE.

<figure><img src="/files/yOsS3W3CwVsHG3STXm5h" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Auction House is one of the most popular places to spend MOANI! </p></figcaption></figure>

### Resource Collecting

Resource collecting can be divided into four categories: **foraging, farming, natural resources, and fishing**. Players can also **trade resources** with NPCs or other players and **earn them** as rewards.

**Foraging**

As players explore the game world, they will encounter a wide variety of resources, from simple crafting materials like palm leaves or wood to rare gems. Common items can be found on the beach, while rare or legendary ones are more challenging to locate and often require more extensive exploration or participation in special events. These rare resources provide players with opportunity to craft the most powerful NFT items and add an extra layer of excitement to the game. Foraging may sometimes require specific tools and new resources appear daily.

#### Farming Resources

By engaging in farming activities, players can cultivate various crops such as wheat, corn, and tomatoes. These crops can be grown using seeds that range in rarity from common to legendary. Small and limited amount of common seeds can be acquired for free and more seeds can be purchased from vendors or found during exploration.&#x20;

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WdHSi4KWTY>" %}
Farming in Alpha Version
{% endembed %}

#### Natural Resources

Gathering natural resources is similar to farming but without the need for planting. The supply of resources like minerals, wood, and sand is infinite, but the regrowth typically takes longer. Rare items may occasionally be found while gathering natural resources.

#### Fishing: A Relaxing Minigame

The crystal clear waters of Paradise Tycoon offer an ideal environment for fishing. Players simply **need a fishing rod** and a couple of baits. Fishing rods can be crafted, purchased from a vendor, or bought from the Auction Hall. Then, they can find a great spot on the beach or sail to the sea to cast their lines.

Fishing is a minigame that requires patience and timing. The bigger the fish, the more careful players need to be when reeling it in. The quality of the fishing rod affects the player's chances of catching the fish, so having a better rod can give them an edge. However, luck still plays a role in the catch of the day.

<figure><img src="/files/lcGk3fVtpjomncsB0JP6" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**MOANI the currency of Paradise Tycoon**

Once you've acquired MOANI tokens, you can enhance your gaming experience by spending them on in-app purchases such as blueprints, tools, decorations, and more. MOANI can also be used for services such as acquiring higher ranked islands, allowing you to invest in your island's infrastructure and create a thriving virtual paradise.

MOANI is essential for in-game purchases, trading, and marketplace transactions, enabling a player-driven economy in Paradise Tycoon. By acquiring and spending MOANI, you can trade with others and shape your unique journey in the game.

# Tools and Consumables

A diverse range of tools helps you get things done in Paradise Tycoon, including **axes, pickaxes, scythes, shovels, and clippers**. Located within a dedicated tab in the player's **inventory**, these tools are primarily acquired from NPC traders, through crafting, trading, or as rewards from quests or events.

<figure><img src="/files/OU359qSj83hcxWurHYhY" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Every tool possesses a distinct **item level, rarity, and set of stats**. The level and rarity serve as intuitive means for players to compare tool quality without delving into stats. Regardless of level or rarity, every tool features specific stats; however, higher-level items boast superior attributes while **Epic and Legendary NFT items** even includes a special ability and set bonuses.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/TKwufyVf4gnpm2ozGBsw" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Consumables

Consumables, as the name suggests, are items that the player can consume. These could range from **food** and drinks to **elixirs**, providing a temporary boost to player abilities or attributes, thus injecting a short-term strategic element into gameplay.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/tDejmNWMpElaM2Juua2R" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Players can acquire consumables through a variety of avenues - refining crops in refinery buildings, purchasing them from vendors with Moani, trading with other players, or winning them as rewards in various events. With consumables, the thriving economy of Paradise Tycoon extends from the grandeur of land and NFTs right down to the everyday necessities of island life.

# Crafting

Crafting allows players to use materials gathered through foraging, collecting, or farming to create tools, appliances, or decorative items. These crafted items can be used personally, exchanged for resources with NPC Traders, or traded with other players at the Auction Hall.

### Blueprints: The Foundation of Crafting

To craft any item, **players first need to find and learn a blueprint**, which describes the required crafting materials. Blueprints can be acquired from NPC vendors, as rewards from Quests and Events, found by exploring the outworld or from one of the Houses.

<figure><img src="/files/wiXHX5kTbIeEfU6mtOsO" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### The Five Houses

Paradise Tycoon features five distinct Houses, each specializing in teaching players the art of crafting different items in their unique domains. These Houses include:

* House of Craftsnship
* House of Farmers
* House of Chefs
* House of Rangers&#x20;
* House of Alchemist

The House of Farmers, for instance, imparts players with the knowledge to craft farming-related items like Scythes, Watering Cans, and Clippers, among others. While it's entirely possible for players to achieve high ranks across multiple houses, mastering all of them is an uncommon feat. The choices players make can have lasting effects and underscore the significance of social interaction and trading within the game.

<figure><img src="/files/82XDQzUfarrvGpOC1YgM" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### NFT Crafting: Mint Rare Items

Crafted items made with very rare and limited resources can be **minted as NFTs**, while lower rarity items are non-mintable. NFT items not only boast impressive stats but also feature unique appearances, abilities and set bonuses. These NFT items can be traded in-game or on third-party marketplaces, making them highly valuable and collectible.

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/i2F1cvRzPkE>" %}

# Building

Paradise Tycoon offers a variety of building and upgrading options that allow players to **increase production, create living spaces, and personalize their islands**.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/iCLGXOpi2pWUvvx7fMiR" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Production buildings like *Storage Hut, Juice Bar or Saw Mill* play a crucial role in boosting production, adding storage space for resources and refining resources. Most of these buildings can also be upgraded to enhance their functionality. For example, upgraded storage provides more space, a Juice Bar unlocks more potent consumables, and a Saw Mill allows for crafting more refined materials.

#### Personalize Your Living Space

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/NI7j85cWABM>" %}

Paradise Tycoon is not just about gathering resources, maximizing production, and participating in events. Players can also **create a cozy living space** for themselves and their crew. Build an additional wing for your home villa, paint the fence, or set up a hammock at your favorite spot on the beach.

Residential buildings, like the player's house, depends on the ranking of the island with higher ranked islands providing more space and rooms for furniture and decorations.&#x20;

However, players are not only limited to their residential building but in fact can **customize their entire island**, from digging up and replacing palm trees to creating massive structures using building blocks. The freedom to shape the environment allows players to create a truly unique and personal space in the game.

<figure><img src="/files/53HAZdJw4R7Opr8DvOlL" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Some Tycoons have built massive constructions!</p></figcaption></figure>

# Quests & Paradise Pass

In Paradise Tycoon, players can complete quests and tasks for some additional rewards. **The main quest starts immediately after beginning the game** and doubles as a tutorial during the first-time user experience. Players will meet Wallace "Wally" Bets, a member of the Port Ohana Welcoming Committee who is responsible for revitalizing Port Ohana and nearby islands as tourist attractions. Although Wally's motives can sometimes be questionable, he helps guide players through early tasks that involve gathering resources, fixing workshops, and planting seeds.

<figure><img src="/files/Q3qrbiOQcfbTGk2ZJBUa" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Side Quests

In addition to main quests, players will encounter a **variety of side quests** provided by NPCs in Port Ohana and other outworld locations. These side quests can range from participating in events to exploring exotic outworld locations or assisting the Port Ohana Welcoming Committee with various tasks. Some of these quests may feature interoperable elements with other games that Paradise Tycoon has partnered with *(such as* [*the adventure with The Sandbox*](https://www.sandbox.game/en/experiences/paradise_tycoon_adventure/6b27e8d4-f264-448e-b396-017a90e7c696/page/) *in late 2023)*, enhancing the gaming experience and connecting players to a broader gaming universe.

#### Daily Tasks with Paradise Pass

The Paradise Pass feature is structured similarly to a battlepass with various tiers, including a free tier and exclusive access tiers unlocked through the Paradise Pass NFT or ownership of rare, epic, or legendary islands.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/x4fdPQ0BY3E62h0fdx7I" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

While the free tier offers a range of fun & useful rewards to enhance your game, the advanced tiers provide better rewards including MOANI token. The tier is scaling with the number of Paradise Pass NFTs or rarity of your island. The higher your tier, the greater the rewards.

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/_TwP0viZmtI>" %}

# Events and Competitions

In Paradise Tycoon, events and competitions offer exciting ways for players to engage with the community, earn MOANI rewards, and acquire valuable items such as NFTs, non-mintable rewards such as blueprints, and rare resources.\
\
Events play a strategic role in activating new audiences in Paradise Tycoon. By creating a buzz and offering exclusive rewards, they attract a broad spectrum of players. Active liveops with wide range of different events increases retention rates and in-game spending, which in turn, drives the Lifetime Value (LTV) of each player. The consequent augmentation in user base and LTV is essential for sustaining the vibrancy and economic health of the Paradise Tycoon ecosystem.

The events are designed to cater to different interests, skills, and play-styles. Some events, like the **Harvest Festival**, focus on how well players have maximized the production on their paradise island, while others, such as **Fishing Event**s, involve an element of luck. Still, other events like **Obstacle Courses** require skill and dexterity. The wide range of events ensures that there is something for everyone, providing fun and engaging activities to participate in when not working on the island or adventuring.

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/AQKdrfMpYy4>" %}

Paradise Tycoon embraces both the competitive and cooperative spirits. While certain events pit players against one another in a thrilling **player-versus-player** format, others foster camaraderie as players **collaborate with friends** to achieve common goals.

Each event keeps things fresh with different twists and turns, including **varying rules** and numbers of tries. This ensures that players always find something new and exciting to tackle. Moreover, you’ll never run out of things to do, as **multiple events** can be running at the same time. This means players have options and can jump into whatever catches their fancy.

Plus, Paradise Tycoon is all about fair play. In some events, **everyone gets a prize**, but spots are **limited**. In others, it’s a **free-for-all**, but only the **top performers** or the luckiest players take home the rewards. It's a great mix that makes sure Paradise Tycoon stays exciting and rewarding for everyone.

# User Generated Content

At Paradise Tycoon, we truly believe in player autonomy and creativity, which is why we are pushing the boundaries of web3 social gameplay. Paradise Tycoon **encourages players to create their own in-game events**, enabling them to shape the in-game world according to their own rules, preferences, and imaginations.

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/3ENehjI7uBY>" %}

Paradise Tycoon introduces the concept of *Paradise Creators*, players who are eligible to create their own events by owning rare or higher ranked island and thereby unlocking crafting of creator items. With creator items and the building blocks *Creators* can conjure unique scenarios - parkour tracks, puzzles and mazes or set up goalposts for a friendly soccer match or even shaking things up with a sea-based goal for added difficulty

**Creators** are responsible for **crafting the event, setting the rules**, and even deciding an optional participation fee in Moani tokens, contributing to a prize pool. They have the freedom to put a fresh spin on familiar scenarios or create entirely new experiences.

When players participate in events, they gain access to fun, competitive, and social game content, earning rewards set by Creators or developers and unlocking achievements.

We aim to allow as much creative freedom as possible. Events can be structured to run over several days or a week with players submitting participation proofs under a tweet. Or it could require the Creators presence as a referee for more complex scenarios.

The possibilities are endless, from hosting fishing or soccer challenges on icy islands to social gatherings around a campfire. This flexibility in event creation is the cornerstone of user-generated content, making Paradise Tycoon a true playground for the creative mind.

# Avatar Customization

In Paradise Tycoon, the first step to immersing yourself in the tropical world is customizing your player avatar. Your avatar represents you throughout the entire metaverse and shapes how other players perceive you. Carefully select from a variety of features, including distinct appearances, hairstyles, eyes, skin color, and eyebrows, to create a unique character that reflects your personality.

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/t4WG0kukhys>" %}

For those looking to switch up their style, Port Ohana will soon offer even more customization options. Visit the local barbershop to get a new haircut or shop for fresh outfits to keep your avatar looking sharp and up-to-date.

Upon starting your journey, you'll receive a set of clothing and accessories for your avatar. **As you progress, you can wear different outfits**, as well as **craft or purchase new ones** to expand your wardrobe. Utilize the Wardrobe feature to change your avatar's attire, ensuring your character remains fashionable and unique as you explore the world of Paradise Tycoon.

<figure><img src="/files/TpfVc5URYBn7dxMvqqLT" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Collectibles and Vanity Items

Collectibles and vanity items such as furniture and appliances can be **purchased** with tokens or **crafted** by players. Using rare materials in crafting can create unique and valuable items that stand out. Both non-mintable and mintable NFTs can be used for decoration, with the first NFT furniture being minted during the Alpha Phase.

<figure><img src="/files/fdfb82jn7Lv2G3f39iCe" alt="" width="540"><figcaption><p>Genesis Furniture Sets</p></figcaption></figure>

#### Pet Companions: Liven Up Your Paradise

Pet companions add a fun and lively element to the game. Cats, dogs, lizards, turtles, and parrots are available in the Alpha and Beta Phase through the Genesis Collection, with more options coming in future updates. While these pets don't have specific functions, owning one grants an achievement and offers bragging rights when walking around Port Ohana with a unique companion.

<div align="center"><figure><img src="/files/ip3KreT6iY5hwhKcvBeD" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

# Social Features

In Paradise Tycoon, **social interaction** is an integral part of the gaming experience. The game offers various features to help players connect, communicate, compete, collaborate, and celebrate with others, creating a sense of community and friendship. Social features are the most important game features for long-term retention, especially in multiplayer games.

<figure><img src="/files/YddnOeqz3AqpCGIaJMML" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Paradise Tycoon allows players to communicate through area-specific and friend chats or with the emotewheel, which lets players express themselves through various emotes such as dabbing, waving, or cheering.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/931HbhF40k44IzfLYn02" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

As players invite others to their homes, they can put their creativity and unique NFTs on display. Visitors will be able to **vote for the homes** they find most impressive, with the highest-voted homes being featured on **monthly leaderboards**. This system encourages players to invest time and effort into personalizing their homes and creating an appealing environment for visitors.

<figure><img src="/files/YaKGGCzVcgnnBHQP8Bqo" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The social competition to have the coolest home serves as an excellent channel for players to promote their NFTs to other players. Gaining recognition through the leaderboards can attract more attention to their NFTs, which can be beneficial for players who plan to trade or sell them

The neighborhoods encourages cooperation towards common goals with unique perks, enhancing the community-driven gameplay. Neighborhoods also have a mutual area for shared projects and social gatherings, strengthening player bonds. If players want to acquire adjacent lands with their friends, they can do so by trying to purchase lands on secondary markets. This approach creates a vibrant and healthy economy for the land within the game, allowing players to combine their in-game experiences with their personal connections and deepen their engagement with Paradise Tycoon.

Furthermore, the Photo Mode enables players to capture, customize, and share their game experiences, engaging with the community through contests and social media. Regular community contests with different themes, such as "Show Your Favorite Hiding Place in Paradise Tycoon" or "The Ultimate WTF Moment," encourage players to explore and share unique aspects of their gaming experiences.

<figure><img src="/files/Wi3SSIc4AoDwwQp8OaB3" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>PhotoMode</p></figcaption></figure>

In addition to sharing game experiences via photo mode, players can **earn achievements and titles by accomplishing in-game tasks, performing well in community events, and demonstrating their skills** in various aspects of the game. These achievements and titles, often accompanied by a badge, serve as badges of honor, allowing players to proudly display their accomplishments to the entire community.

# GAME ECONOMY AND MONETIZATION

### **A Blend of Web2 and Web3 game economy**

Sustainable game economies require a successful monetization, irrespective of whether they exist in the web2 or web3 sphere. Recent web3 games are primarily catering to a niche group of players willing to spend exorbitantly on NFTs with floor price-driven tactics. However, we at Paradise Tycoon believe that **success in the web3 gaming space requires acknowledging and catering also to the spending behavior of mainstream gamers**, a pivotal factor in making their transition to blockchain-based gaming seamless. In fact, web3 technology can offer a far broader reach. Leveraging a token-based economy, we can overcome the traditional constraints of monetization design, accommodating a much larger audience with diverse economic backgrounds.

**By merging web2 and web3's capabilities**, we aim to establish a sustainable, eventually profitable game economy, and engage a broader player base. This approach enables us to lower entry barriers significantly compared to web2, thus providing more players access to premium content. We believe this transformation to be similar to what we experienced a decade ago when premium games were challenged by the advent of free-to-play.

Our team's **years of experience in designing monetization strategies** for in-app purchases in free-to-play games will be used in shaping Paradise Tycoon's game economy. We will create similar monetization sinks, but with the added benefits that web3 technology offers.

### **Core Principles of our Game Economy & Monetization Design**

Our game economy and monetization design hinges on three principles:

1. **Simplicity**: The token economy must be simple for streamlined onboarding process and to preserve game immersion.
2. **Sustainability**: Real sustainability demands that the token inflow and outflow from the game economy pool balance out, resulting in a zero-sum (or more).
3. **Safety**: Introducing tokens into a game economy carries inherent risks, and any experienced game economy designer can understand the potential pitfalls. To mitigate these risks, we introduce the token economy gradually.

# Moani Token Design

&#x20;When designing the game economy for Paradise Tycoon, our first priority was to ensure that it aligned with our mission of reaching a wider audience of non-crypto native gamers. Although the number of active users in web3 games has exploded in the past two years, the gamer population in web3 games is still only a fraction compared to that of mainstream games. Therefore, the real market potential lies in the audience that has yet to be reached.

#### Single token model

To reach a new audience, the first-time user experience needs to be flawless, without extra steps in the onboarding of the game which could break the immersion. According to research by Google Play, gamers decide whether to continue playing within the first 10 minutes. To engage players positively, these 10 minutes should not include reading a manual or watching a YouTube video about installing and connecting a wallet, buying NFTs, and dealing with multiple tokens. Having multiple tokens by default makes things more complicated. For this reason, we prioritized designing the game economy using a single token model.

<figure><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/kGv4sjT56ai__x1axPubO-aaNot87DMRDT-HSdN_rl8psGTzAwohRHv1IcJwec6HaQYDSGgcAdHxOE1ybTPcH7_WbdBvPu1GxGhwcRXv5xESiA8ljpw44eD8sTCboOCBit6H3EsnKJk7dKzLmOA7Fms" alt=""><figcaption><p>According to Adam Carpenter from Google Play, the first 10 minutes played on day 1 are crucial for a good day 2 retention</p></figcaption></figure>

In some games, a single token model is accompanied by in-game sub-currencies. This is often intended to create stable costs and returns or to separate the free-to-play model from the token economy. However, our model does not use sub-currencies, as this would further complicate the onboarding process. It has also been shown multiple times now that the value eventually correlates with the Token regardless as a clear representative of the demand for the currency.&#x20;

Additionally, in many single-token games there is a Token or NFT requirement to access most of the game content if not the entire game. This means that early adopters are paying less than a player joining in later. To fix this, sometimes the entry cost is fixed to USD *(for example, a player needs to buy $100 worth NFT to play)* to avoid ponzi-like mechanisms, but the rewards are based on Token amount *(to compete for 1 Million tokens prize pool)*. As a result, a rapid increase in token value can lead to a quick withdrawal of value.

<figure><img src="/files/s6c2kLIWZC4SWieSnYzG" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Model B with fixed costs &#x26; returns has longest lifespan according to GameFi Tokenomics 101: Single-token blockchain games</p></figcaption></figure>

To avoid this, in Paradise Tycoon there are no entry costs and everyone can play and contribute to the game economy. To create a sustainable economy we introduce a number of in-app purchases and recurring sinks similarily to traditional F2P game, but using MOANI token and of which ALL will be returned into game economy pool. In addition to in-app purchase, the token in Paradise Tycoon is also used for NFT purchases, player-to-player trading and number of different fees.&#x20;

When the token price increases, the costs of in-app purchases in tokens decrease. Similarly, if the token price declines, the costs in tokens can increase. Most Token rewards will be dynamically adjusted, while only some are fixed *(Paradise Pass rewards)*. This way players will have partially stable costs, while the earnings remain relevant, avoiding any Ponzi-related mechanisms.&#x20;

> *The token price fluctuation can result in a loss of buying power and price fluctuations can create a lock-out risks in which players cannot afford to buy new tools or other necessary items after a rapid drop in token value. To avoid lock-out risk, Paradise Tycoon offers multiple ways to acquire these items through player-to-player trading and other means.*&#x20;

Although the model definitely resists surges and plunges more than the other options, it is still dependent on recurring spending of tokens, just like any other token model OR Free-to-Play game.

#### **Multiple uses of the main token strengthen its overall utility and market value*****.***

The dual token model was previously touted as a better way to hold value for investors' tokens. However, it has been observed that this model does not necessarily prevent the token from losing value. Ultimately, investors will also consider the usage of the utility token when valuing it. With a single-token model, the game's upside potential is also shared with players, which strengthens overall incentives for players to progress and spend tokens.

Furthermore, the multitude of use cases for a single token, including in-app purchases (recurring sinks and one-offs), trading & minting fees, and more, creates a strong market value that is less sensitive to market changes.

This model ensures long-term sustainability. Players can start the game for free, and the costs of in-app purchases will be dynamically adjusted relative to USD. This model is 100% ponzi-free and does not favor those who started first with lower costs, creating an equal playing field for future players and promoting long-term sustainability.

#### **Community of players and investors alike**

The interests of owners of different tokens in dual- or multitoken model may not always align, which can divide owners into opposing sides. In a single-token model, distributing the main token as in-game rewards can help avoid this segregation and promote a cohesive community. This approach benefits everyone, as an active gamer/investor community can create sustainability and resistance against market volatility without dividing token owners. By creating alignment between players and investors, this model can benefit the entire community.

To ensure long-term sustainability, utility tokens should be primarily owned by the players. This would make the token less susceptible to market changes. However, in current blockchain games, this ratio is often distorted, with players owning only a small percentage of the tokens in circulation.

**Disclaimer**

There is no one-size-fits-all token model that is best for any game. A great web3 game can surely be developed using different token models or with just NFTs. In an MMO game with a player-driven open economy, such as Paradise Tycoon, the upside of the token can be remarkable. However, factors such as distribution, scarcity, sinks, and how the token aligns with NFTs should always be carefully considered.

The game economy can be based on a single or multi-token model. However, it will not be sustainable without recurring sinks that players can spend tokens on, such as in-app purchases *(or an infinite flow of new players, which is unrealistic).*&#x20;

# Creating Sustainable Economy

As mentioned in the previous chapter, the biggest challenge so far for tokenized web3 games has been to create a sustainable game economy. The in-game economy design should mitigate the effects of investor speculation and market cycles, without relying on an inflow of new players. Unfortunately, as we saw during the last cycle, this is not often the case.

In the economy of web3 games, a common problem is that the prices of tokens and NFTs begin to decline when the increase in daily active users (DAU) slows down, and web3 native players leave when the return on investment (ROI) decreases. This creates a destructive chain reaction that is caused by tokens with no supply cap, inadequate inflow mechanisms, a market saturated with new NFTs, and web3 native players who only play to earn.

<figure><img src="/files/lbrrKDaKaBSRxH1AqDXB" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p><em>High increase in DAU results in SLP supply exceeding burned SLP tokens in Axie Inifity</em> [<a href="https://defivader.medium.com/axie-infinity-part-2-sustainability-e9ff15e4728d">Defi Vader — Axie Inifity Part 2: Sustainability</a>]</p></figcaption></figure>

Our team has addresses the above-mentioned issues and designes the game economy in a way that we can mitigate the effect of the crypto market cycles on the game economy.

Our past experience developing and publishing Tycoon games has given us valuable insight into the do's and don'ts of in-game economies. While some argue that the free-to-play game economy cannot be applied to web3 games at all because the in-game currency has no real value, and therefore you do not need to worry about a recession, this is not true. However, the token does add to the complexity and especially to the risks related in poor economy design.&#x20;

If the free-to-play game economy is unsustainable, it can be almost impossible to make the game profitable. Here's why: while some developers (especially hyper casual) rely on in-game ads, many successful game companies, like Supercell, operates an ad-free revenue model where revenue comes from in-app purchases. The primary source of new players is paid user acquisition (UA), which has an average Cost Per Install (CPI) ranging from tens of cents to tens of dollars, depending on targeting and optimization. To become profitable, the game must generate a minimum return on investment from in-app purchases, which can take a significant amount of time.

In an effort to simplify the design of IAP-monetized free-to-play games, we have created **three simple laws that can serve as a foundation for profitable games:**

1. The game should have a **high entertainment value**, meaning it should be enjoyable and keep players engaged for extended periods of time (good retention!)
2. The game should have **well-designed in-app purchases** that increase entertainment value without conflicting with the first law.
3. The game should offer **recurring purchases** to add more entertainment value, without conflicting with the first or second law.

Initially, a majority of the web3 audience was attracted to the play-to-earn aspect of games. These players can be referred to as "earn-first players". The remaining players are assumed to enjoy the game more because of its entertainment value, and are thus referred to as "game-first players". In addition, there are investors who primarily engage in speculating on token value. Although the player base is not polarized, and rather exists on a spectrum, it is evident that some of the early web3 games were primarily designed for earn-first players. The entertainment factor comes from earning, rather than from the gameplay itself. Some of the teams did an excellent job with this, especially given how early it was in the crypto space.

However, as we move towards the next wave of web3 games, it is inevitable that the games-first approach takes over, with a focus on entertaining gameplay and sustainable economies, while still being lucrative for the players. Most play-and-earn games lack a free-to-play option. To get started, players need to purchase NFTs, which are sometimes very expensive. In free-to-play games, players decide whether they find the game entertaining enough to spend money (or watch ads) after playing for a while. In games designed for earn-first players, after the initial NFT purchase, players can spend tokens to further increase their profits.

**New Metric for web3 games**

In order to monetize free-to-play games, the second law is to design in-app purchases (IAPs) that increase the entertainment value of the game. Success can be measured by Paying User Conversion (PU%) and Average Revenue Per Paying User (ARPPU) in comparison to Cost Per Install (CPI), which determines the game's profitability. These metrics are honest and straightforward and can determine the game's future prospects.

<figure><img src="/files/oOxvtvmGuBR1h3Ug9avO" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Average Revenue Per paying User (ARPPU) in Mobile Games H2/2018-H1/2019 [<a href="https://gameanalytics.com/insights/reports/">Mobile Gaming Industry Analysis for H1/2019</a>]</p></figcaption></figure>

Web3 games have a significant advantage over traditional free-to-play games because in-game purchases (IAPs) can increase both the entertainment value and earning potential. This means that there can be a wide spectrum of different types of IAPs, and the economy will remain sustainable as long as the IAP design is good enough to the make players spend, just like in free-to-play games when we sell virtual goods. Metrics like PU% or ARPU, which are commonly used to measure free-to-play games, cannot be directly applied here. Therefore, we have created a new metric called the Spend-to-Earn ratio (STE). However, let's leave this metric aside for now and return to it later.

> “…Web3 games have a huge advantage over free-to-play games because the IAPs can increase the entertainment value but also have earning potential…”

The third law is to make purchases recurring, and it could be the most challenging one. The fundamental requirement is to keep players engaged for the long term. Games designed for "earn-first" players can have astronomical long-term retention rates (day 30 or day 90) compared to free-to-play games. This is understandable if you think about the concept of "earn-first", which is essentially a job.

### **Balancing the economy with the Spend-To-Earn ratio**

Retention should be considered one of the main KPIs for a "games-first" approach as well, although we might need to settle for lower numbers. What makes retention so important is that the conversion rate to a returning buyer is typically higher compared to the conversion rate of a paying user. Therefore, a successful game design generates high lifetime value (LTV) with recurring sinks to which players will periodically spend more money, making the game experience more fun.

We will create the foundation for a sustainable economy by introducing gameplay with high entertainment value that keeps players engaged with recurring sinks. Players can spend tokens to be more entertained and possibly increase their earnings. However, if the increase in earnings is excessive or the in-app purchases (IAPs) with lower effects on earnings are not entertaining enough, it may create a flux in the game treasury with devastating results, as we have seen happen before.

Therefore, the inflow (total tokens returning to the game economy pool) and outflow (total rewarded tokens) must be balanced. One proper metric to use is the Spend-to-Earn (STE) ratio. The STE ratio is the ratio between tokens a player has spent in-game and/or has gone back to the treasury and the tokens earned. The spent tokens does not only include IAPs but also possible trading fees, which can be substantial part of the token inflow. Spent tokens include any tokens spent, whether earned, gifted, or bought from an exchange. Earned tokens include any tokens received from the in-game treasury, such as those from seasonal tasks and event rewards.

STE is similar to return on investment (ROI), but in this context, ROI gives the potential return of the investment permitted by the game economy as a function of time, while STE is a player performance-specific metric that gives developers data on the actual average return.

<figure><img src="/files/v1ET9IDkcMrYIYKDv8QD" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Speculated Gaussian distribution of spend-to-earn ratio among players required for sustainable game economy</p></figcaption></figure>

Maintaining a high average STE (above 1.0) is crucial for sustaining the economy. Similarly to traditional free-to-play games, where higher PU% and ARPU are desirable, developers of web3 games should aim to increase the proportion of players with a higher average STE. It is likely that STE values will follow a Gaussian distribution, with values ranging from zero to infinity.

To optimize STE, you can adjust the size of rewards, fees, the effect of IAPs on earning, or design IAPs with entertainment value only. The latter is the most efficient way to achieve this goal. Ultimately, the success of a web3 game depends on the quality of its design and IAPs, as is the case in traditional free-to-play games

<figure><img src="/files/NDIttgC9xUXu0MAphPnB" alt="" width="375"><figcaption><p>High Scale schematic of balanced token inflow &#x26; outflow in Paradise Tycoon</p></figcaption></figure>

The simplified example below demonstrates how a player’s STE is determined:

*A player enters Paradise Tycoon without previously purchasing NFTs or Moani tokens. The player starts farming crops and collecting resources, he's able to trade some of his resouces to another player for a few tokens. At this point, the player's STE is 0, but soon they wish to progress faster and upgrade their items. To maintain good progress, the player buys additional resources for the upgrade with tokens. After a while, the player has built a nice villa, but is eager to customize it with an in-app purchase or finds to buy some additional consumables to gain edge in a PvP tournament. Each of these steps gradually increases the STE.*

### Sustainable and engaging game economy

> “…some players can earn more than they spend even to a point where they can make a living out of it, others will happily spend more tokens than they have earned…”

In a sustainable economy, spending tokens should always increase the entertainment value. Some players may even earn more tokens than they spend, to the point of making a living out of it. However, most players see gaming as entertainment, not a job, and they will **happily spend more tokens than they have earned**. Ultimately, it is the entertainment value that enables gaming to become a job for some players.

<figure><img src="/files/gzMjr66hYRBFmoUxwoVi" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Schematic presentation of average spend-to-earn as a function of time in earn-first (GameFi 1.0) and games-first (GameFi 2.0) approach</p></figcaption></figure>

# Token & NFT On-Boarding

To create a sustainable economy in web3 game, as described in the previous chapters, we need traditional gamers who are willing to pay just for the entertainment and not for the ROI. Part of this process is to introduce **token** and **NFTs** to the player **gradually** as part of the game experience. It will be possible for the players to play the game even without realizing at first that the in-game currency used is a token or for example, some of the items or islands can be minted into NFT.&#x20;

In Paradise Tycoon, **new players start on a free non-NFT island** with limited access to common and rare resources obtained through foraging and farming. These resources can be used to build or craft simple, low-level buildings and items, or they can be traded with other players for other resources and items for progress.

### *The* *REDDIT* -Approach&#x20;

While players progress through the tutorial quest chain, they will create a player account with wallet and gain access to the multiplayer world. This allows them to forage and collect more resources. These resources can be used to craft higher-level buildings, upgrades, or items. However, these resources can be bound to specific locations, seasons, or unique events, making trading crucial part of the gaming experience.

*Imagine this: The trees in a Tycoon’s backyard in one part of the world might be entirely different from those in another, both equally useful, but for a different purpose! This diversity is what makes trading in Paradise Tycoon so exhilarating.*

<figure><img src="/files/badxYeK6e7vxzYe1FScU" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In addition to having better stats, items crafted with rare resources can also be minted into NFTs. Minting can further increase the stats, such as an enchantment in RPG games. This provides a clear incentive for players to use their newly created custodial wallet and gain **hands-on experience** with an **NFT.**

We will be create masses of mainstream gamers their first wallets, and they will be introduced to the NFT ecosystem and Token economy possibly without even realizing it. We call this approach **the Reddit -approach** due to the similar approach of how Reddit engaged milions of users with their NFTs. However in our case, the users will be continuing to use their wallets as game progress.

# Game Economy Loop

After completing the tutorial and creating their player account, players can use Moani in many different ways to enhance their gaming experience. For example, they can use it for...

* **Player-to-Play trading.** Purchase items directly from other Players at Auction House (includes 5 % trading fee)
* **In-App Purchases.** Both one-offs and **recurring sinks** including tools, customization, seeds and consumables purchased from NPC vendors&#x20;
* NFT Purchases such as larger islands (rare, epic & lege) which also grants tier in ParadisePass
* **Minting**. Mint the rare craftable item by purchasing a Minting Elixir from NPC Vendor.
* **Nano Purchases.** Giftable items, boosters or ability activations with as low as few cents.
* **Participation Fees.** Join user generated event by paying a fee set by the player who created the event. &#x20;

100% of the revenue received will be returned into the Game Rewards.

In-App Purchases and NanoPurchases will be described in more detail in the chapter *In-App Purchases & Sinks.*&#x20;

### Acquiring Moani Token

Players can also acquire Moani tokens in various ways:&#x20;

* By selling resources or items at the Auction House
* By completing one-off quests or tasks in Paradise Pass feature (NFT holders)
* By participating in events and competitions, either provided by the game or generated by other players.&#x20;

While some events may require higher ranked NFT islands to score high, others are more skill-based and offer guaranteed prizes for all participants (although with participation limits).&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/AQDtwlDC1zJDJLWgtePR" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Fixed costs for a Ponzi-free economy

As mentioned in [Moani Token Design](/game-economy-and-monetization/moani-token-design)prices at Vendors are dynamic, and considers the token value in USD, except for islands and possible other one-off NFTs with limited supply. This separation of game experience from market sentiment provides a consistent experience for all players, especially those coming from traditional gaming.

All spent tokens will flow into the game rewards pool. From there, the tokens will be distributed as in-game rewards. The game rewards pool has a fixed supply of 1.8 billion tokens (30% of supply). In the long term, the rewards will be balanced to match the inflow in order to keep the token reserve at this amount of tokens, maintaining a spend-to-earn (STE) ratio for players at 1 or above, as described in the previous chapter.

#### Dynamic returns for long lifetime

A great way to create demand to the token in addition to the entertainment value is to ensure players will have incentives to participate in competitive events, and to play & spend token to gain an advantage *(most succesful games includes a small amount of pay-to-win!)*. To do so, the returns must be dynamic and related on user amount. As an example, suppose we maintain a monthly Event reward pool of $50,000 worth of tokens for 500,000 monthly active users. In this case, each player should contribute an average of $0.10 worth of tokens to the game economy pool per month for a zero-sum scenario.

In other words, for the economy to be sustainable a combination of sufficient Average Spend per User (ASPU) and Token Value is required, however, both relatively low. The ASPU for fully sustainable economy is significantly below the average revenue per user of team's previously published free-to-play games. It's also worth noting, that trading fees, a total 5% of the trading volume of non-NFTs and NFTs alone can become a major contributor in the token inflow. 1 Million USD worth of trading would suffice for a sustainable economy, excluding all in-app purchase sales, NFT sales and nanopurchases

Below is an example of the prizes available from a smaller monthly reward pool worth $60,000. The prizes in the pool are USD, but the actual amount rewarded will be in Moani token and is therefore subject to its market value. The size of the reward pool will scale with MAU. In this example, the reward pool is equivalent to 0.1% of the tokens allocated to the game economy, which has a market price of $0.01.&#x20;

<table><thead><tr><th width="140">Rank</th><th width="131">Prize ($USD)</th><th width="245">Prize ($MOANI) </th><th width="234">Allocation (% of prize pool)</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Top 1</td><td>$4000</td><td>400000</td><td>7%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 3</td><td>$2400</td><td>240000</td><td>8%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 5</td><td>$1120</td><td>112000</td><td>4%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 10</td><td>$800</td><td>80000</td><td>7%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 20</td><td>$400</td><td>40000</td><td>7%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 50</td><td>$160</td><td>16000</td><td>8%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 100</td><td>$96</td><td>9600</td><td>8%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 200</td><td>$48</td><td>4800</td><td>8%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 500</td><td>$16</td><td>1600</td><td>8%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 1000</td><td>$12</td><td>1200</td><td>10%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 10000</td><td>$0.64</td><td>64</td><td>10%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 50000</td><td>$0.20</td><td>20</td><td>17%</td></tr><tr><td>Top 100000</td><td>$0.12</td><td>12</td><td>17%</td></tr></tbody></table>

&#x20; *Example of an event prize pool*

With these measures the game's economy pool is designed to ensure that enough time is reserved to balance the economy and guarantee its survival during anomalies such as huge bursts of new concurrent players (in the scale of millions) or drops in player count which may temporarily cause rewards to surpass the inflow.&#x20;

The token inflow increases as long as the player remains active and keeps playing, due to the value input into the game ecosystem. For example, if a player buys an item from an NPC vendor or crafts one and later decides to sell it at the auction house, the inflow begins accumulating from transaction fees each time the items are traded.

### Economy simulation

To balance in-app prices and rewards, an in-game economy simulation will be launched during the beta. During this phase, the economy model will be adjusted with player data in order to balance costs and returns. Additionally, the IAPs will be A/B tested and optimized throughout the beta.

<figure><img src="/files/Kxvk0ncA5LDeS8JJQpKh" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

It should be noted that the data collected during the beta may not accurately predict player behavior because the Moani token will be off-chain. Once the game is launched, the estimations will be readjusted with player data, creating a more reliable projection of the economy.

### Gradually Implementing the Token Economy

The token economy and gameplay will be developed in steps to mitigate risks. This approach ensures that enough data is used to validate the economy model, and provides time to fix any issues in the model without risking the loss of many tokens from the in-game economy pool.

To mitigate the aforementioned risk, at first, we will only include events with reward pools that scale with MAU, and Paradise Pass tasks rewards for NFT island and Passport holders with limited Moani rewards.&#x20;

Players will be able to participate in different types of events, including recurring tournaments like the Harvest Festival and one-off events where every participant will receive a prize. The reward pool is set beforehand, and rewards are given based on the final standing.

In one-off events with rewards for all, but participation is limited to a certain number of players. For example, only the first 10,000 players who join the event will be eligible to receive a reward.

After the model is validated with enough data and the economy is running issue free, we will add more options to earn a small amount of Moani tokens.

# Player Archetypes

Creating a sustainable economy, as elaborated in previous chapters, hinges on well-crafted monetization design. However, the bedrock of successful monetization design is a profound understanding of the player base. Different player archetypes have distinct motivations to spend money, and acknowledging this diversity is pivotal. Optimal design stems from inclusivity, accommodating each player type while maintaining a balance so it doesn't appear excessively aggressive. This approach sustains player interest and commitment to the game, creating a win-win situation for all parties involved.

In Paradise Tycoon player types can be divided based on their goals in the game and their level of engagement:

1. **Casual Builders (Casual/Low Engagement):** Players who enjoy the aesthetic aspects of the game. Their short-term goal is to create a visually pleasing island. Their long-term goal is to have an island with most aesthetic elements included. They might not be very engaged in the competitive or strategic aspects of the game, and uses Moani mainly for trading resources and customization.

   \
   **Preferred IAPs:**

   * One-off purchases from vendors such as cosmetics

   **Spending behaviour**

   * Uses Moani mainly to trade resources for building and crafting. Occasionally gifts friends with nanopurchases.

2. **Strategic Tycoons (Midcore/High Engagement):** These players are focused on the resource management & Tycoon elements of the game. Their short-term goals might involve optimizing resource production and trade. Long-term, they're looking to create the most productive island possible, perhaps aiming to climb the leaderboards or amass a large fortune through trading. They are deeply engaged and plays the game regularly.&#x20;

   **Preferred IAPs:**

   * Recurring purchases such as seeds and a high chance of purchasing mid to high rank island.&#x20;

   **Spending behaviour**

   * Uses Moani daily to trade resources for crafting & building, and to mint NFTs&#x20;

3. **Competitive Tycoons (Hardcore/High Engagement):** These players are goal-oriented and may aim to complete specific objectives or events in the short term. In the long term, they are likely to aim for high rankings in the leaderboards, the collection of rare items, or the completion of every possible achievement. These players are typically very engaged and plays the game on a daily basis.<br>

   **Preferred IAPs:**

   * Recurring purchases from vendors such as consumables. High chance of purchasing a high rank island.&#x20;

   **Spending behaviour**

   * Uses Moani to participate in events, to trade resources for building, crafting and for consumables.&#x20;

4. **Social Explorers (Casual to Midcore):** These players enjoy the social and explorative aspects of the game. Their short-term goals might include making new friends or visiting other players' islands, and long-term, they might aim to become part of a large and active in-game community. Their engagement level can vary, but they are likely to log in regularly to interact with their friends and explore new content.

   **Preferred IAPs:**

   * Purchases customization for character and island. Might purchase a low to mid rank island.&#x20;

   **Spending behaviour**

   * Uses Moani to participate in events, to trade resources for building and crafting. Occasionally gifts friends with nanopurchases.

5. **Creative Directors (Mid to Hardcore):** These players are motivated by the user-generated content elements of the game. Short-term, they might aim to organize small events or activities. Long-term, they may aspire to become *Creators*, creating large-scale, engaging events for the community. They are likely to be highly engaged, spending time both playing and planning their in-game initiatives.

   **Preferred IAPs:**

   * Purchases customization for character and island. Might purchase a mid to high rank island.&#x20;

   **Spending behaviour**

   * Uses Moani to participate in events, and to trade lots of resources for building and some for crafting. &#x20;

These are just a few potential player types based on the gameplay features and mechanics of Paradise Tycoon. A player might not strictly fall into one category and could cross over between several, depending on their mood or particular in-game goals at any given time.

# In-App Purchases & Sinks

In Paradise Tycoon players are offered a compherensive selection of one-off and recurring In-App Purchases (IAPs). IAPs can accelerate progression, help fulfill short or long-term goals, enrich the visual appeal of players' islands, homes, and character aesthetics. All **In-App Purchases** in Paradise Tycoon will be **done using the native Moani token which will then return to Game Rewards pool.**

<figure><img src="/files/62hbV8iWfPputleFkAOf" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### NPC Vendors

NPC Vendors play a vital role in helping players maximize their potential in Paradise Tycoon. These friendly vendors, always available at Port Ohana, offer a wide range of products and services to help your production prosper and turn your paradise island into the most incredible destination.

From crafting resources, seeds to customization tools, and consumables, NPC Vendors have everything you need. While purchasing extra resources, and seeds can provide players a quick shortcut to their short-term goals, the customization tools and decorative appliances can be part of a bigger plan for creating your dream home.&#x20;

With consumables players can get temporary boosts to production, harvesting, or other time-consuming activities, allowing you to get more done in less time. In addition to these items, players can also give their avatars a fresh new look with a set of different character customization options.

By spending MOANI tokens wisely, you can make your Paradise Tycoon experience more enjoyable and rewarding.

### NFT Islands

Players can purchase rare, epic, and legendary islands in-game using Moani tokens. These islands are larger, allowing for more buildings such as refineries. This provides players with access to a larger pool of resources, giving them a competitive edge in crafting and events. In addition, these islands contain a higher amount of native resources and offer different tiers in the ParadisePass feature. This enables players to complete tasks for Moani rewards, with the reward level based on the rarity of their island.

### NanoPurchases to Unlock a New Market

One of the unique aspects of our game's economy design is the accessibility and affordability of in-app purchases. To achieve this, we will add a layer in our pricing model of very small transactions, starting from a few cents. These NanoPurchases are opportunities for players linked to in-game progress or social activity. These allow players to use special abilities of NFT items, temporary boosts in production, or access giftable consumables, to mention some.

<figure><img src="/files/f9DnVLqEtmiwPWv9LB3k" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This approach allows us to cater to a wider audience, including players from countries with less purchasing power. By making in-game purchases accessible and affordable, we aim to provide an enjoyable and engaging experience for players from all economic backgrounds.

Because they are on-chain transactions, social features, such as gifting another player (a popular feature in Pokemon Go) with a booster also create options for interoperability.

<figure><img src="/files/BnwchxxKd5d4Rcdyoc1U" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

We take into account all spending behaviors for monetization, but we scale the game economy to also accommodate NanoPurchases. Top-grossing free-to-play games are balanced so that players can spend over $100,000 before hitting a wall, oftentimes increasing with updates. We simply start from a smaller initial amount.

&#x20;

# Player to Player Trading

Expand Your Opportunities with Trading and Bartering

The final piece in the Paradise Tycoon game economy and monetization is player-to-player trading, an essential part of the game economy and major contributor to the token inflow, while also providing a wealth of opportunities for both fun and earning. By engaging in trading **players can exchange resources, crafted items, and more to diversify their collections and grow their in-game wealth**.

Advanced Tycoons will build **refineries**, transforming common resources or crops into r**are commodities** or **consumables** that **enhance abilities**, crucial for competions and events. But space is a luxury, and choices in crafting and building are influenced by the **House** a Tycoon aligns with, making trading an essential aspect of life in Paradise Tycoon.

### Auction House: The Heart of the Player-Driven Economy

The Auction House, located in Port Ohana, serves as the cornerstone of the player-driven economy. Here, players can put up for sale anything they own, either in stacks or as single items. This includes collected resources, crafted items, or things they have bought from other players or NPCs.

<figure><img src="/files/1Xq4GAhkcRqpJ9o7I2C6" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The game takes a small transaction fee around 5% from each completed purchase whether non-NFT or NFT, ensuring that the player-driven economy remains sustainable.

# MARKETING

The most popular Life Simulations PC & Console, such as Animal Crossing lacks deeper metagame features where players could maximize their production through automating processes. On mobile, tycoon and building games like Hay Day typically lack movable player avatars for interaction and exploration, i.e. the life simulation part. Moreover, none of the examples above are massively multi-user.

Paradise Tycoon is a unique hybrid of previously mentioned game genres, while still clearly part of the trending category of building and life simulation. Its **multi-platform availability** helps reach a larger audience than its PC and console counterparts. With the upside of blockchain, it can become a **long-lasting and evolving web3 MMO game** like some of the most successful traditional MMOs.

# Competitor Analysis

### Competitors **and competitive edge**

Our main competitors are mainstream titles released on Mobile, PC, and console, such as Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley. Although we also target the web3 audience, our main competition is in web2. The Monthly Active Users (MAU) of current web3 players represent less than 2% of our potential market in web2.

<figure><img src="/files/gtOfuVfrYjtoYmmeF2pg" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### **Trending Genre in Web2**

Simulation & Building is **the trending PC game genre of 2023** and 3rd most popular in Mobile Games. Paradise Tycoon will be available for Mobile & PC.

### **Underrepresented Genre in Web3**

Currently, **Paradise Tycoon is the only playable web3 Life Simulation on Mobile**. Although there are some games in development to be released on Mobile phones, this is clear proof of how well-positioned Paradise Tycoon is especially at the web3 market.&#x20;

60% of web3 games are Action, PVP, or collectible card games. Only 6% of web3 games are simulation games like Paradise Tycoon. We welcome the competition as we are certain there plenty of room for many life simulation genres utilising web3 technology.

Paradise Tycoon is a unique hybrid of previously mentioned game genres, while still clearly part of the trending category of building and life simulation. Its multi-platform availability helps reach a larger audience than its PC and console counterparts. With the upside of blockchain, it can become a long-lasting and evolving web3 MMO game like some of the most successful traditional MMOs.

# Target Audience

Paradise Tycoon has a potential audience in web2 and web3 players. Furthermore, life simulation games typically appeal to a wide demographic due to their accessible gameplay and the variety of activities available.&#x20;

### Target Audience Demographic

**Age: 18-30**

**50% female, 50% male**

While many video game genres historically had a predominantly male audience, life simulation games have tended to achieve a more balanced gender split, with a substantial number of female players.

| Animal Crossing       | Axie Infinity         | Web3 Overall          |

# User Acquisition Strategy

### User Acquisition

User acquisition in Paradise Tycoon embraces **strategies both from web2 and web3** paradigms, each serving distinct purposes.

Our web2 approach leans on a data-driven methodology for attracting mainstream gamers, benefiting from our team's extensive experience in this domain. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for marketing have been benchmarked early in the game's development, ensuring that Paradise Tycoon resonates with its target demographic. These KPIs have been exceedingly promising, giving us confidence in our ability to onboard millions of web2 gamers. Our primary user acquisition channels in the web2 realm are TikTok and Facebook, the most widely used platforms for mobile game promotion.

<figure><img src="/files/AJbWiwaAd76G7tWIoJng" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Early UA KPIs during Alpha Snapshot 5</p></figcaption></figure>

On the web3 side, the market is currently smaller, but as it expands, our user acquisition efforts will likewise grow. At present, our strategy is centered on community-building among web3 enthusiasts, gamers, and content creators. To engage this audience, we've distributed early vertical slices of the game, referred to as alpha snapshots. Players are incentivized to complete these snapshots and earn Paradise Coupons, which grant them whitelist slots for free NFT mints and access to Genesis Islands which gives them an advantage when the full game launches. Being an early entrant in this space, we're able to capture the attention of web3 gamers, who not only provide valuable playtest data and feedback but also help identify various web3 player cohorts and potentially become loyal players.

The cross-platform compatibility of Paradise Tycoon also offers a unique edge in user acquisition. By appealing to audiences on platforms we wouldn't typically reach with a mobile-only game, we broaden our player base.

### Content Creators & Strategic Partnerships

Content creators and streamers, both from web2 and web3 spaces, play a crucial part in our user acquisition strategy. We've fostered close collaborations in innovative ways, involving these influencers directly in the game world. Prominent figures such as SpikeReacts and CryptoStache, for instance, each have their own Non-Player Characters (NPCs) in the game.

<div><figure><img src="/files/m3sgA4bcTAYGpF9vi1f4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/OpmTxmffhUagQ2xnG7Sd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

We're also building connections across the gaming landscape, forming partnerships with guilds, communities, and other games. One of our most notable collaborations is a partnership with The Sandbox game, attesting to our commitment to cultivating an inclusive and dynamic gaming ecosystem.

Ultimately, our user acquisition strategy is a multipronged approach, designed to reach a diverse range of gamers and grow Paradise Tycoon's community in a sustainable, inclusive, and engaging manner.

# TECHNOLOGY

# Blockchain Integration

## **How Paradise Tycoon Utilizes Blockchain**

*Digital Ownership:* Blockchain technology enables digital ownership of items, lands, NFT crew members, and other in-game assets in Paradise Tycoon.

*Interoperability:* Achievements in Paradise Tycoon can be shared and exchanged between our games or even games developed by others, creating a comprehensive gaming ecosystem.

*Moani as In-Game Currency:* Using Moani, a crypto token, as the in-game currency offers benefits such as seamless player-to-player trading and a free economy.

## Benefits of Blockchain

#### 1. Revolutionizing Monetization

Embracing blockchain technology enables the introduction of "**nano purchases**", allowing players to engage in payments as small as a few cents, making gaming more inclusive and accessible for players from all economic backgrounds. By allowing the resale or trade of digital assets, players can recoup some of their investments, making gaming more financially viable, especially for users in Tier 3 countries. This approach creates a more balanced gaming experience tailored to a broader range of spending capacities and ensures that entertainment becomes truly accessible globally.

#### 2. Enabling a Player-Driven Economy & Digital Ownership

Blockchain technology allows us to create an economy with player-to-player trading, transforming in-game assets into real currency and back, a feat not possible for an indie studio without blockchain.

#### 3. Expanding Interoperability

Players can transfer assets and achievements between games, enhancing the gaming experience without overlapping content. In the future, expect to be able to use Paradise Tycoon NFTs in future Empires Not Vampires games, but also in other partnering titles coming up soon!

#### **4. New ways to build IP with NFTs**

In most web3 games NFTs only serve as an ID linking to an asset on a game server maintained by the developer. This means that in the event the server is shut down, the NFT loses its value as a game asset.

Paradise Tycoon is taking a different approach, allowing for a higher level of true digital ownership that is beyond the control of the game developers. In Paradise Tycoon, **NFT game assets, including attributes and visual elements, are stored on the blockchain** (or IPFS) with a license that allows other developers to create utility and interoperability for the NFTs. This model will eventually help us grow our IP across the gaming ecosystem and supports our goal of mass adoption by web2 gamers. There are plenty of developers that today, utilizing web3 technology would love to tap into interoperable IPs but are unable to do so due to old traditional licensing models.

> As CoFounder Timo Juuti explains, “*Blockchain technology offers immense freedom in game design. We are putting in-game assets into the blockchain as NFTs, with a Creative Commons license for developers to use in their games. It makes them available for anyone and not controlled by us; this is real digital ownership. This creates some exciting future scenarios and new ways to build IPs.“*

## Wallet Integration

We believe that blockchain's potential should be accessible to all, and it's integral to our approach in Paradise Tycoon. We strive to ensure that integrating the wallet into the gameplay is as seamless as possible, with the intention of not breaking the immersive gaming experience.

1. **Create an account using Social Logins:** Shortly after beginning your journey you will be prompted to create an account using any popular social logins to save your game progress and to access features such as crossplatform access.&#x20;
2. **Player gets a Wallet for Moani & NFTs:** Upon account creation, a wallet will be set up automatically. This wallet is where your Moani tokens and NFTs, such as Land and Crew Members, will be stored.
3. **Earn Moani through Tutorial Quests:** As you progress through the tutorial quests, you will earn Moani tokens. By the end of these quests, you'll have enough Moani equivalent to the gas fee of a single transaction.
4. **Mint Your NFT Land with Gas Fee:** Now it's time to step into the World of Paradise Tycoon! Use the Moani you've earned from the tutorial quests to pay for the gas fee required to mint your NFT Land. This grants you access to the full gameplay features.
5. **Experience Crypto Currency and NFTs:** Congratulations! You've now potentially used cryptocurrency for the first time and possess your first NFT in your newly created wallet. Welcome to the World of Paradise Tycoon!

# Cross-Platform Compatibility

**Cross-Platform Accessibility and Inclusivity**&#x20;

In Paradise Tycoon, cross-platform accessibility is key to widening our player base and accommodating a variety of gaming styles, from casual to hardcore. The game will support both **mobile and browser platforms**, allowing players to enjoy the game on their device of choice. This mitigates any platform-related restrictions or policy challenges and ensures a seamless gaming experience for all.

<figure><img src="/files/tmBGT9JPJLCsozuGbcnG" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Leveraging the versatility of the Unity engine, we can efficiently develop the game for multiple platforms while maintaining a consistent gameplay experience and performance. Renowned for its ability to create multiplatform games with minimal redundancy, Unity's robust and adaptable toolkit allows us to streamline the development process.

Our ultimate aim with Paradise Tycoon is to create a gaming environment that's as inclusive as possible. We're designing monetization strategies that cater to players from all economic backgrounds, potentially opening up the game to billions of new players. Our commitment to cross-platform compatibility and seamless transition between devices made possible through the Unity engine, ensures we can cater to a wide audience and offer an enjoyable gaming experience to players across the globe.

# Server Infrastructure

### **Our Lightweight MMO Approach**

A common perception exists that creating a Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game requires a massive team with deep pockets. At Paradise Tycoon, we challenge this notion, proving that a lean team can build an engaging MMO without having to spend excessively on backend infrastructure.

### **Technical Infrastructure**

Our technical approach leverages managed services that have already addressed many of the most significant development problems typically encountered in creating MMOs. This approach allows our team to focus on delivering a superior gaming experience rather than expending unnecessary resources on backend infrastructure.

Our game's technical foundation is constructed on a sturdy base of

* **Unity and Unity's Gaming Services** for the game engine
* **Photon Engine** for real-time connectivity between players
* **Amazon Web Services (AWS)** for robust backend services

This combination offers an agile, scalable, and cost-effective solution.

<figure><img src="/files/JI06us4DsCJ0X4e8m3ZX" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### **Innovative Gameplay Features**&#x20;

To give the game environments a lively atmosphere even with smaller player counts, we've introduced our innovative **Neighbourhood system**. This system provides continual **social contacts and interactions** for both new and existing players, naturally promoting a social gameplay experience.

Our world design organizes players into tropical archipelagos called Neighbourhoods, with each Neighbourhood accommodating up to 8 players. In addition, our design includes a system called Planes that can hold up to 1000 players each. Planes contain 125 Neighbourhoods distributed across the Plane, with points of interest geographically identical in each.

<figure><img src="/files/k1g0pe8wq2tORHlqHixv" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### **Addressing the Ghost Town Effect**

As new players join the game, we acknowledge that some will eventually stop playing. This "Ghost Town" effect can lead to areas becoming inactive, detracting from the gameplay experience. To counteract this, we've designed Neighbourhoods so that we can **automatically move inactive players** to specific Planes and free up the land slot for others. If inactive players reactivate, they can continue playing and migrate to an active Plane.

### **Promoting Cooperation and Social Gameplay**

Another feature that we leverage is a **system that dynamically groups players** in a specific area or those working on the same objective. This allows players with the same goals to cooperate and work together to complete quests or construct items.

We prioritize friends, empowering players who know each other to always play together. This feature motivates players to invite real-life friends to join the game and allows friends to migrate to another Plane together, ensuring that they are placed in the same Neighbourhood.

### **Preparing for High Player Counts**

To prepare our Light MMO for high player counts, we will **conduct stress tests** both with actual players and programmatically. Although most of the scalability is built into the services we use, we need to identify and address other potential bottlenecks on both the client and server side.

Analytics play a crucial role in our Light MMO development. We **continuously monitor player, server, and other metrics** to identify areas needing improvement, enhance the gameplay experience, and optimize server resources. **Data-driven development is a fundamental part of our ethos.**

### **Conclusion**

In conclusion, building a Light MMO without massive resources is entirely feasible. A combination of intelligent technical solutions, innovative game design, and data-driven development can pave the way. Through our Light MMO approach, we emphasize the importance of aligning game design with scalability targets, leveraging managed services, and prioritizing the user experience. Our team builds value by focusing on the player experience, not by building server infrastructure.

# FUTURE EXPANSIONS

After launch, Paradise Tycoon will enter its LiveOps phase. During this time, we'll introduce numerous content updates, new features, and expansions to the game. Here are some of the most anticipated features we'll add after launch:

### **NFT Crew Members**

Crew members are **unique ERC-721 NFTs** that not only help with tasks but also add a touch of personality to your island. They serve as your diligent assistants, assigned to tasks such as farming crops or collecting natural resources. This alleviates the need for players to spend considerable time on maintenance and enables them to focus on trading, building, questing, and adventuring or participating in events.

<figure><img src="/files/crPSzdIrJNy24riPsPsz" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

However, your crew members' efficiency is dependent on their well-being. They need to eat to keep their energy levels up. Without adequate sustenance, they can't perform their duties, leading to a decline in island productivity. Hence, **players must ensure continuous food production and operational refineries** to keep their crew members fed and energetic.

As you assign tasks to your NFT crew members, they gain experience and eventually level up to learn new skills of your choosing. You can select the right skills to boost any specific part of your production, equipping your crew members to maximize productivity. They can contribute not only to the daily upkeep of your island but also provide invaluable assistance in events and competitions like the Harvest Festival, thus granting a competitive edge.

<figure><img src="/files/A8T1r77hN4tptg5XrUDW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Crew members come in various rarities**, ranging from Common to Legendary. The rarity of a crew member determines the types of crops and resources they can collect, as well as the buildings they can assist you in constructing. Rare crew members often have a more striking appearance, making them a sought-after addition to your island. These members, depending on their rarity and skills, can also potentially contribute to your success in events and competitions.

In essence, crew members are the heart and soul of your island operations, adding personality, helping in resource production, and sometimes even aiding in events. However, their contributions come with the responsibility of ensuring their well-being, thus adding another layer of strategy and management to the rich gameplay experience of Paradise Tycoon.

## Paradise FM

<div align="center"><img src="/files/NbbNJ0YHqL8GTFAqfjEF" alt="" width="563"></div>

In Paradise Tycoon, everything is player-owned, even the music. Paradise FM is the HOTTEST in-game radio station playing the best NFT hits around the clock. What sets Paradise FM apart is its fusion of the virtual world with the diverse realms of the music industry.

Players can subscribe to Paradise FM by paying a small monthly fee in MOANI tokens to listen to the station while hanging around in the Metaverse. Notably, the station boasts collaborations with artists and labels from across the music spectrum, encompassing both renowned pop stars as well as indie talents on the rise. Our experienced team, which has an extensive background in the music industry, has been instrumental in this. They've worked on licensing and A\&R with major labels like Warner, Sony, and Defected, and have collaborated with artists such as Steve Aoki, Avicii, Jason Derulo, and many more.

All songs playing on Paradise FM are NFTs that were previously auctioned to our MOANI token holders. The subscription income for Paradise FM is distributed to these NFT owners, providing them with a source of passive income, akin to real-life performance royalties. This empowers artists, particularly smaller ones trying to breakthrough via web3, by giving them an innovative platform to promote their work.

Looking ahead, Paradise FM has the potential to be a cornerstone in the careers of indie artists. With plans to expand, Paradise FM could help create dedicated fan bases for artists within Paradise Tycoon. Who knows? We might even see virtual concerts within Paradise Tycoon, giving rise to our own Metaverse-born pop stars.

In essence, Paradise FM is not just a radio station; it's a dynamic and revolutionary musical ecosystem in the Metaverse, combining entertainment with investment, and nurturing the talents of tomorrow.

# TEAM MISSION

### Our Vision

**Empires Not Vampires** has taken the initiative to be on the frontline of KPI-driven, fun-to-play, and **sustainable** blockchain games.

At Empires, we take luck out of the question when designing games. Creativity and passion are great motivators (and we have lots), but only half of the equation. When creativity meets data, great, long-lasting games are created. We build our games for our audiences - not for ourselves. Games must be fun, engaging and even endearing for the players in order to succeed.

### Our Mission&#x20;

Our mission is to create interoperable social blockchain games with sustainable economies and digital ownership that will last for decades.

We will set an example of how blockchain technology can have a huge uplift in mainstream quality games through digital ownership and we will reach new audiences outside of crypto natives with easy onboarding and great user experience. Simply put, we take Web3 gaming to its next era.

### Our Values&#x20;

In a world filled with humanitarian and environmental crises, we create games promoting friendly and social cohesion instead of competitive PvP battling, while searching for the best ecological solutions. We make efforts to compensate for our carbon emissions to ensure a bright future for the next gaming generations to come.

### Our Art&#x20;

Paradise Tycoon’s game art reflects our values through its colorful, happy, and engaging visual style inspired by the diversity of nature, people, and life in its marvelous complexity. Each character, environment, and animation exhibit our values down to the tiniest detail.
