Player Archetypes

Creating a sustainable economy, as elaborated in previous chapters, hinges on well-crafted monetization design. However, the bedrock of successful monetization design is a profound understanding of the player base. Different player archetypes have distinct motivations to spend money, and acknowledging this diversity is pivotal. Optimal design stems from inclusivity, accommodating each player type while maintaining a balance so it doesn't appear excessively aggressive. This approach sustains player interest and commitment to the game, creating a win-win situation for all parties involved.

In Paradise Tycoon player types can be divided based on their goals in the game and their level of engagement:

  1. Casual Builders (Casual/Low Engagement): Players who enjoy the aesthetic aspects of the game. Their short-term goal is to create a visually pleasing island. Their long-term goal is to have an island with most aesthetic elements included. They might not be very engaged in the competitive or strategic aspects of the game, and uses Moani mainly for trading resources and customization.

    Preferred IAPs:

    • One-off purchases from vendors such as cosmetics

    Spending behaviour

    • Uses Moani mainly to trade resources for building and crafting. Occasionally gifts friends with nanopurchases.

  2. Strategic Tycoons (Midcore/High Engagement): These players are focused on the resource management & Tycoon elements of the game. Their short-term goals might involve optimizing resource production and trade. Long-term, they're looking to create the most productive island possible, perhaps aiming to climb the leaderboards or amass a large fortune through trading. They are deeply engaged and plays the game regularly.

    Preferred IAPs:

    • Recurring purchases such as seeds and a high chance of purchasing mid to high rank island.

    Spending behaviour

    • Uses Moani daily to trade resources for crafting & building, and to mint NFTs

  3. Competitive Tycoons (Hardcore/High Engagement): These players are goal-oriented and may aim to complete specific objectives or events in the short term. In the long term, they are likely to aim for high rankings in the leaderboards, the collection of rare items, or the completion of every possible achievement. These players are typically very engaged and plays the game on a daily basis.

    Preferred IAPs:

    • Recurring purchases from vendors such as consumables. High chance of purchasing a high rank island.

    Spending behaviour

    • Uses Moani to participate in events, to trade resources for building, crafting and for consumables.

  4. Social Explorers (Casual to Midcore): These players enjoy the social and explorative aspects of the game. Their short-term goals might include making new friends or visiting other players' islands, and long-term, they might aim to become part of a large and active in-game community. Their engagement level can vary, but they are likely to log in regularly to interact with their friends and explore new content.

    Preferred IAPs:

    • Purchases customization for character and island. Might purchase a low to mid rank island.

    Spending behaviour

    • Uses Moani to participate in events, to trade resources for building and crafting. Occasionally gifts friends with nanopurchases.

  5. Creative Directors (Mid to Hardcore): These players are motivated by the user-generated content elements of the game. Short-term, they might aim to organize small events or activities. Long-term, they may aspire to become Game Masters, creating large-scale, engaging events for the community. They are likely to be highly engaged, spending time both playing and planning their in-game initiatives.

    Preferred IAPs:

    • Purchases customization for character and island. Might purchase a mid to high rank island.

    Spending behaviour

    • Uses Moani to participate in events, and to trade lots of resources for building and some for crafting.

These are just a few potential player types based on the gameplay features and mechanics of Paradise Tycoon. A player might not strictly fall into one category and could cross over between several, depending on their mood or particular in-game goals at any given time.
